ABOUT GREEN LEAF
My name is Krystie and I am the founder of Green Leaf Lounge.
I'm a mum of 2 teenage boys & step mum to 3 more wonderful kids. Crazy cat lady. Plant lover. Creative soul.
The beginnings of this business are a crazy story, it really is the best ever silver lining of a bad situation.
Back in late 2018 I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. It was in a difficult location and long story short, I needed to fundraise $60k to travel interstate and have the operation to remove it (with the amazing Prof Charlie Teo, but that's a wild story for another time!).
We did many a fundraising event to help our cause - quiz nights, movie nights, raffles. Just about everything we could think of.
Around this time, my fiancé got me a kokedama from a local market as a gift... and I was instantly in love with it!
I have always been an avid gardener and lover of plants and all things crafty and creative. My other half suggested that I should try my hand at making a few of my own kokes to sell and add to our fundraising kitty- so off I set! I googled and you-tubed and read all about kokedamas, I practiced and practiced and created my first batch of kokedama. I popped them for sale up on Marketplace and they were snapped up in a heart beat. So I made some more. The messages started to roll in of people wanting to place orders, and so I did. I created the socials and gained a lot of momentum, and so I thought well why not register this as a business and see how we go!
As the business continued to grow, there was more and more requests for workshops, So once again I thought why not?! So I assembled a group of ladies and had a test run. It was a hit!
I posted the Workshops events up on the socials and have been consistently booked on weekends now since mid 2020 - how amazing that a business can really blossom mid-covid right?!?!
I have since added Macrame workshops to the mix, and offer a couple of different Kokedama workshop formats - which are delivered both at our studio and also at customers premises. I aim to always keep kokes in stock at our home-based studio in Mawson Lakes, SA for those who need last minute gifts or purchases, and I take orders for those who know in advance what they would like. I also have a small hand selected range of pots, planters and botanic themed gifts.
I had my brain surgery back in Feb 2020 and it was a massive success. Other than a couple of minor residual issues, I am now in excellent health.
I feel incredibly grateful that life has taken me down this path and I get to do something I am truly passionate about every day.
I am very thankful to everyone that has supported my journey, I appreciate you all endless amounts ♥
